| FOR PARENTS |
Welcome to Dollarthink.
We hope that you are considering this course for the students in your home and maybe also for yourselves. There is a lot of useful information here that everyone needs to know to keep from being taken advantage of financially.
The History of Dollarthink.com
In 2005 the United States Congress changed the bankruptcy laws to require virtually every individual debtor to take a course in personal financial management as part of his/her bankruptcy. These debtor education courses have been very well received. The most recurring comment coming from debtor students after they completed the courses was, "Why didn't we learn this stuff sooner? We wouldn't have gotten into this mess." So, in response to this outcry, Dollarthink.com was born. The idea is simple--get young people to understand the value of money and how hard it is to earn and hang onto. If we can make the next generation financially savvy, it will make monetary decisions that will benefit all of us.
Young people who know nothing about money matters turn into adults who struggle with their finances. We all know people who fit this pattern. Adults who fail financially are a drain on the rest of society. People who take out home loans that they can't repay make it harder for the rest of us to get a home loan when we need one. People who can't manage their own money may end up on social welfare programs that the rest of us have to underwrite. People who rack up thousands of dollars in credit card debt that they will never be able to pay off help to put the interest rate on credit cards in the neighborhood of 25% for all of us. On a personal level, the youngster who can't earn his/her own living ends up living........WITH YOU! I imagine you'd pay $10 on the chance that you could keep that from happening, eh?
Why Dollarthink?
Our course writers are professional teachers, counselors, lawyers and financial advisors. And, we are parents.
Our course has been read and re-read by educators and edited to ensure that the students taking it will have a positive experience and be exposed to a complete banquet of financial delicacies. We believe we have touched all the bases. We use humor and real-life personal examples. The writing is simple and clear. This is a practical course with information that can be put to use in day-to-day life. This is not the economics class of 30 or 50 years ago--this is personal economics.
High school and college age young people are not "kids" and they need to have some exposure to this information. We know that parents may be uncomfortable "talking finances" with their offspring. We also know that in some cases parents don't have all the asnwers and so we hope that you too will learn something from this course. Maybe one thing your son or daughter learns here will help him/her to understand why you made a particular financial decision at some crossroads in your life and that alone will make the course worthwhile.
We are not affiliated with any other company. We are not selling any other products or services other than this course. We have not accepted any money from any individual or company to underwrite any of the information contained here. There is no advertising anywhere on our website.
We provide this course for the price of a small pizza and hope that our students will appreciate what it offers and recommend it to others.
